A small and easily forgotten tip when exercising is breathing. Sometimes, it’s easy to focus so much on an exercise that you don’t realize you’ve been holding your breath the entire time. That makes it more challenging on your body. Breathing is an essential part to working out because it’s necessary for muscles to receive oxygen. When oxygen is in the muscles, it allows them to contract better during a movement. This will help your body to work better when you are exercising. If you unknowingly holding your breath, you are making things more difficult. Not only is it more difficult, but you are not releasing any carbon dioxide from the body. If blood shows high amounts of carbon dioxide, it can be harmful to your respiratory system and you need your lungs to be strong to help you perform your best. You can easily protect yourself from these dangers by experimenting with your breathing while you are working out and see what suits you best. Some runners comprise a breathing pattern where they exhale for three full steps they take, then inhaling the next three steps. They are controlling their breath, which allows them to perform better when they run. Try it out by seeing if short fast breaths or slow deep breaths feel better when you are moving. Try to breath out when you are exerting force, maybe during a heavy lift, then remembering to inhale and exhale again throughout the rest of that movement.
